Disease Cure 365: Two Advantages to the Underserved

Disease Cure 365Disease Cure 365 reports that impoverished countries are trapped in the global economic and environmental situations. They are suffering in countless ways: export prices of freight, such as copper, rubber and tin, which have become a rarity; banks are removing their loans from emerging market economies; remittances are dropping; emigrant workers are being sent home; long-planned international investments are frozen at this time; and promised foreign aid is no longer available.

As a result, a rise in famine leaves entire populations susceptible to infectious diseases. Chronic undernourishment is a co-factor in about 1/3 of the 9m or so deaths per year of children under 5. Moreover, the numbers of people affected by violence, and environmental and economic disasters are sure to increase.

2 management breakthroughs are creating a way to a quick and low-cost scale-up of disease control attempts.

The 1st. is the emerging interest in community health workers. Considering the pervasiveness of international brain drain (still today) and the trouble of luring doctors to isolated villages, the public health community has finally considered the need to train villagers where they live.

The second breakthrough is m-health, which is defined as the application of mobile phones and other handheld wireless devices to assist the health sector.
Mobile phones do it all: educate the community health workers; link them to the clinics; make accessible an emergency response system; alert of disease outbreaks; track aid flows; and give telemedicine. This is making two definite advantages available to the impoverished communities.

Disease Cure 365: Acid Reflux's Connection to Cancer

Disease Cure 365Disease Cure 365 would like to warn everyone about acid reflux’s link to cancer!

In example, John "Monte" Mordecai was diagnosed 2 years ago with esophageal cancer. He died less than one year later at age sixty-three. In Monte’s honor and his memory, his daughter Mara, now thirteen years, wanted to inform everyone about this deadly disease. It claims nearly everyone diagnosed with it; hoping that no one else would lose their father to something that could have been caught sooner if only he had been aware.

On Sunday, Mara and her mother, Mindy Mintz Mordecai put on the 2nd Annual Dance for the Cure. Mara is attempting to raise money for esophageal cancer research and also to increase awareness of the disease that has been associated with acid reflux.

"If we had known that was a risk, he could have gone in for an endoscopy," reported Mordecai. "More people in America die every year of esophageal cancer than melanoma. And we all know about sunscreen."

About sixteen thousand four hundred and seventy new cases of esophageal cancer were diagnosed in 2008 - more than 2x the number of cases thirty years ago - and about fourteen thousand two hundred and eighty died of the disease last year, according to the American Cancer Society. However, not everyone with acid reflux will get cancer.

Disease Cure 365: A Cure For the Deaf?

Disease Cure 365Disease Cure 365 is fascinated with the idea of adding deafness to the list of conditions that someday with the help of stem cells a cure will be found. A new British study, published in Stem Cell Journal and reported on the Web site ChattahBox, concluded that fetal stem cells were manipulated by researchers to grow the auditory neurons that are vital to our ability to hear.

University of Sheffield researchers do not anticipate on utilizing the treatment on people for years; however, those who suffer permanent damage due to loud noise deafness could be cured in the future.

“This is really step one,” stated Dr. Neil Theise, director of the liver and stem cell research laboratory at New York's Beth Israel Medical Center. “For years people have been saying that we could take these stem cells and turn them into the sensory cells that line the ears and detect sounds. Now they’ve done it. The stem cells have been able to be turned into this very highly specialized cell type. This is very promising.”

A definite lead to a cure for people suffering with hearing loss has captivated the public’s attention into a promising future. Stay tuned…
